The Swedish crime series starring Rolf Lassgård, Lena Endre and Simon J. Berger will launch three years after the original series premiere on the Scandi streaming service.

Crime thriller TV spin-off of the hit movies The Hunters (1996) and its 2011 sequel False Trail, the first season had a successful run on C More-TV4 in 2018 and also aired in Germany (ARD Degeto), The Netherlands (NPO), Belgium (VRT), South Korea (KT Corp) and New Zealand (Rialto).

In Season 2, Rolf Lassgård returns as the righteous detective Erik Bäckström whose tranquil life is shaken when Joar Särn (Simon J Berger) reappears, 15 years after he was convicted of a murder that still plagues the small community in Norrbotten, northern Sweden. He teams up with prosecutor Niki Thompson (Lena Endre) to investigate the case, creating open conflicts with his nephew Peter (Johan Marenius Nordahl), now a police officer.

"The truth has always had a high price in The Hunters,” commented Lassgård. "Holding on to the truth can turn out to cost even more. What has been done right, what has been done wrong? Erik is his own antagonist this season. He wrestles a lot with himself and risks becoming his own biggest enemy. Hopefully it shows completely different sides of him," said the Swedish star.

Actors reprising their roles include Annika Nordin, Johannes Kuhnke (Love & Anarchy) and Caroline Johansson Kuhmunen. Other cast are Ulf Stenberg (Beartown), Maja Rung (A Man Called Ove, Modus) and Inger Nilsson (Pippi Longstocking), among others.

Season 2 is directed by Jens Jonsson and Johan Lundin, from a screenplay by Björn Carlström and Stefan Thunberg. Harmonica’s Per Janérus and Björn Carlström are producing for C More/TV4, in collaboration with SF Studios, in co-production with Filmpool Nord, support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

The series will roll out on TV4 and TV4 Play March 23.
