The eight-part series The Dorm (Korridoren) directed by Molly Nutley, is part of C More’s bet on young adult drama.
The series produced by Joana Sorobetea for Nelson & Franks is due to premiere August 24.
Headlining the series written by Emil Eriksson, Alexander Havelda and Emil Stenberg, is rising actress Mimmi Cyon, seen most recently in Netflix’s Young Royals and Viaplay’s The Truth Will Out.
Co-stars include Yandeh Sallah (Eagles), Dejmis Rustom Bustos (Blinded), Simon Edenroth (Heartbeats, A Man Called Ove), Isabella Touma Pettersson (Beck, The Chosen Ones), Isac Calmroth (All That Is Left) Klas Wiljergård (Hostage, Blinded), and Nadja Halid (A Class Apart, First Responders).
Cyon plays 20-year-old Jenny, freshly arrived in a student flat-share in Uppsala, from her home town of Eskilstuna, south-east Sweden. Jenny meets new student friends Saga and Oliver and learns how to juggle between partying, studying, and dealing with problems with fellow university students in the shared space.
“We follow the characters in the transition time from youth to adulthood and the challenges it entails,” said actor-turned director Molly Nutley (Dancing Queens, Thicker than Water). “I like that it feels raw and honest, and spans the entire emotional spectrum, from humour to seriousness, in an identifiable setting,” she said.
Piodor Gustafsson, Nordic Head of Scripted Content for TV4 Media and C More, describes The Dorm as “a genuine, touching and funny series about what it's like to become an adult for real. We are very proud of how well Molly and the gang have managed to capture what it's like to be new at university.”
The Dorm is the third YA series ordered by C More after the romantic drama Heartbeats (remake of the Norwegian hit show Hjerteslag) produced by Baluba, and the comedy Likea produced by FLX.
Next to the original YA content, Telia-owned C More keeps churning out seasons of its biggest brands. Gåsmamman’s closing season 6 starring Alexandra Rapaport is due to premiere August 29, while a third season of the crime show Backström has just started filming this week in Gothenburg.
Kjell Bergqvist reprises his role as detective Evert Bäckström, who tackles his only unsolved case to date, the murder of his childhood sweetheart Sally. The investigation takes him to Palma in Mallorca. The ensemble Scandi-cast also includes Rolf Lydahl, Helena Bergström, Agnes Lindström Bolmgren and Pekka Strang.
The series is written by Jonathan Sjöberg and Dennis Magnusson, based on Leif GW Persson's character Bäckström and inspired by Persson’s crime book Linda, as in the Linda Murder.
Sjöberg is co-directing with David Berron.
Daniel Gylling is producing, in co-production with ARD Degeto and Film i Väst, with Banijay Rights handling global distribution. The premiere on C More is set for 2024.
