The 47 year-old producer has spent the last decade at the Danish production house where he worked both on challenging low budget first feature films (A Soap) and on commercial films (What No One Knows, Flame & Citron). "I now look forward to working with fiction on an even wider framework," said the producer.
DR's head of programme production Mette Bock praised Bredo Rahbek's experience in the creative environment and strong economic understanding, a "totally unique combination of competences." DR's Fiction department has been highly successful with drama series over the last few years, securing millions of viewers both domestically and internationally with the Nordisk Film & TV Fond supported Forbrydelsen (The Killing). Bredo Rahbek will now oversee Forbrydelsen II as well as Borgen for DR Fiction.
He spoke to nordiskfilmogtvfond.com about his new challenge.
What triggered your decision to leave Nimbus Film for DR?
I am leaving because I got an offer I couldn't refuse. DR is the biggest TV station/broadcaster in Denmark and the challenge to head its drama/fiction division is a ‘dream come true'. Nimbus Film will remain Denmark's most creative and innovative film production company, even if I am not there any longer. After almost 11 years at Nimbus Film I felt it was time to move on.
Looking back, what will you remember from your Nimbus years and lessons you learnt from working on small and big budget Danish films?
That it's all about dedication. And it's all about daring. I have had the chance to work with the best directors in the business. They have been very generous and together we have made landmark films that I am proud of.
What will happen to the Nimbus projects you're currently working on such as Over gaden, under vandet and Søren Kragh-Jacobsen's Incognito C?
We are discussing this internally. Charlotte Sieling's drama Over gaden under vandet just wrapped after almost seven weeks of smooth and beautiful shooting in the center of Copenhagen. It looks extremely promising. Editing has started and a colleague of mine will take over the reins and start working on the launch of this debut feature. Similarly we will need to figure out who takes over development work on my projects with Ole Christian Madsen, Søren Kragh-Jacobsen and Laurits Munch-Petersen.
What is your vision for DR Fiktion?
I am starting January 15 and do not want to comment on all these issue until I have had sufficient time to familiarize myself with DR and all my new colleagues.
