Headed Felicia Jackson, former DR Senior Media Consultant, the event will be held at the iconic cinema Øst for Paradis in Aarhus, from October 29-31. More than 70 speakers, working in media, branding, gaming, series, film, TV, and innovation are set to attend.

This.series’ advisory board consists of Christian Rank, Head of DR Drama, series and media expert Keld Reinicke, and film & television expert Ann Lind Andersen.

“With this.series, we want to create a new community and platform revolving around series,” told Jackson to www.nordicfilmandtvnews.com.

She continues: “The festival is all about showcasing the Nordic DNA. Attendees will be able to experience screenings of new Nordic shows, talks from international guest speakers and Q&A’s with directors, brands, show-runners, and actors as we dig deeper into the field of serial storytelling.“

Jackson says that this year’s focus will be on ‘Series for Young Adults’, as “more quality series are being created and targeted to young adults in the Nordic countries than ever before.” “The young audience is very quality-conscious, and everybody is fighting for their attention. So how do you create serial narratives that properly reach and engage them in 2020”, asks Jackson.

She goes on: “With 12 previews and sneak peeks at upcoming Nordic series, our aim is to portray Nordic youth culture 2020, touching on themes like alcohol, sex, drugs, relationships, gangs, crime, friendships, love and heartbreak.”

Nordic series to be sneak-peeked include SVT Play’s Eagles season 2 (8x22’), to be launched in the spring 2020. The Swedish show for 15-25 year olds is a new take on a classic American College story, relocated in a typical Swedish small town. Producer/show-runner Stefan H Lindén will introduce the youth show.

Three upcoming Danish series produced for Xee (joint service between YouSee and Fox), to be sneak-previewed as well include:

  • Cold Hawaii from Danish actors/creators Allan Hyde (True Blood, Below the Surface) and Academy-award nominated Aske Bang (Silent Nights), in which two couples discussing commitment, honesty, friendship, infertility, 
  • 32, fourth season (after 29, 30, 31) in the dramedy series from Jesper Zuschlag & Julie Rudbæk.
  • The Jungle created by actor Zaki Youssef (Sons of Denmark), about three friends in their 30s sharing ‘The jungle’ flat and trying to get a break in their careers.

Series to be previewed include:

  • DR Drama’s The Night Before Saturday (Natten til lørdag) written by Asger Kjær & Rikke Frøbert, directed by Cecilie McNair. The series follows three main characters exploring their own and others’ sexual boundaries. It will premiere on DR3 and DRTV in December 2019. 
  • DR Drama’s Doggystyle 2, follow-up to the successful first season watched by more than half a million online fans. 
  • Sex, Danish series created by writer Clara Mendes and director Amalie Næsby for Profile Pictures, to be launched on TV2 in 2020. 
  •  Nudes, Norwegian series produced by Barbosa Film for NRK
  • Grow by the Avaz brothers, a crime drama in which a stockbroker wants to set up the largest drug cartel in Denmark, but his brother –an anti-narcotics police officer- is in his way. The series will premiere early 2020 on TV 2 PLAY and TV 2 ZULU. 

Popular series set to screen include HBO Nordic’s hit series Beforeigners, introduced by Hanne Palmquist (HBO Nordic) and co-creator Anne Bjørnstad, NRK’s Norsemen, presented by Skam creator Julie Andem, and Vikings, the finale, presented by actor Alex Høgh Andersen.

Among the industry sessions are ‘Developing Music for Series’, with Halfdan E, Danish composer of Borgen, ‘The Art of Casting’, with Gro Therp (Artcast), ‘The Agent-Representing the Nordic Talent Internationally’, with agent Anne Lindberg (Lindberg Management), ‘Producing fiction for Instagram’ with Yle’s Hyppe Salmi, and  ‘Meet the Nordic Drama Bosses’.
