Runge’s much anticipated return to Swedish-language filmmaking after the Golden Globe winning film The Wife, is based on Alex Schulman’s eponymous best-selling novel, brought to the screen by seasoned writer Veronica Zacco (Top Dog, Quicksand).

Set in three different timelines, the multi-layered drama weaves together three perspectives into a story of love and tragedy that overwrites both time and space.

Inspired by the story of Schulman’s own grandmother Karin Stolpe, the film depicts her complex relationship with her husband Sven Stolpe and passionate love affair with writer Olof Lagercrantz that started in the 1930s and how it affected the future generations to come.

Bill Skarsgård (It: Chapters 1 & 2), Asta Kamma August (The Pact) and Gustav Lindh (Queen of Hearts) play the main characters Karin, Sven and Olof during the 1930s. Marika Lindström (The Restaurant, Daybreak) and Sten Ljunggren (Border, Together) portray Karin and Sven in the 1980s. Sverirr Gudnason is Alex Schulman and Sonja Richter Amanda Schulman.

The film is produced by Annika Sucksdorff and Jonathan Ridings for SF Studios, in co-production with SVT, Film i Väst, Film Stockholm, with support from the Swedish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and the Creative Europe MEDIA Programme.

SF Studios handles Nordic distribution and REinvent International sales global sales.
The premiere is set for the fall 2022.
