UK pubcaster BBC Four has added the Swedish crime series Modus to its already rich line up of Nordic TV dramas, following a deal closed with Freemantle Media International.

Modus is written by the Emmy Award-winning duo Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe and produced by Sandra Harms for Miso Film Sweden. Melinda Kinnaman plays criminal psychologist Inger Johanne Vik created by Norwegian author Anne Holt. The 8x60’ series was a big hit with viewers and critics alike when it aired last fall on Sweden’s TV4, averaging more than a million viewers on linear TV.

“This [BBC acquisition] is the best thing that could happen and it feels really great. It sets the bar for how the series will continue its international travel,” said TV4’s Head of Drama Josefine Tengblad.

Sue Deeks, BBC Head of Programme Acquisition said: “Modus is a tense and atmospheric crime thriller with a chilling core –it will make a riveting addition to BBC Four’s Saturday nights”.

BBC Four is currently airing on its Saturday slot for non-English language fare the Icelandic noir Trapped. The two first episodes received 4-5 stars from several UK Broadsheet reviewers. Other upcoming Nordic series lined up include DR’s Follow the Money
