Paris-based Newen Distribution has inked a deal with the British public broadcaster for the crime drama created by Torleif Hoppe.
Created, written and executive produced by The Killing’s co-creator Hoppe, DNA follows Rolf Larsen (Anders Berthelsen), a criminal investigator at the CPH Police, still grieving the tragic loss of his daughter five years earlier, who finds out about a system failure at the National DNA register.
Realising that his daughter may still be alive, he tries to find out what really happened to her by investigating a parallel case with ties to an international child-trafficking ring.
Sue Deeks, BBC Head of Programme Acquisition, said: "Beginning with a shocking event, DNA is an intriguing and unexpected crime series which will keep BBC viewers absorbed to the very end."
The eight part series was produced by Nordisk Film Production Denmark, in co-production with France’s French Kiss Pictures, TV2 Denmark and ARTE, with support from the Danish Film Institute’s Public Service Fund, Vestdanske Filmpulje and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
DNA was one of TV2 Denmark’s most popular local premium series in 2019 with more than 673,000 viewers, a share of 31.9% and 4.3 satisfaction (out of 5).
The series premiered on SVT1 March 8, 2020 and is scheduled to air on ARTE in the fall.
It was selected for the competition programme of Canneseries in April, which has been postponed to the fall. BBC will air it later this year.
After successfully airing the Norwegian crime thriller Twin, BBC Four is currently playing the Norwegian series State of Happiness.
