The Norwegian drama A Thousand Times Good Night directed by Erik Poppe has been acquired by Arrow Films for the UK and Ireland. The film starring European stars Juliette Binoche and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is the latest Nordic acquisition for the UK distributor, one of the biggest clients of Nordic films and TV series.

The deal with Arrow Films was negotiated by sales agent Global Screen who also closed new territories after the American Film Market in Los Angeles, such as China (Champ Lis), Malaysia and Indonesia (Suraya), Hong Kong (Edko), South Korea (Cinema Republic) and Estonia (Estinfilm). The film about a war photographer trying to reconcile her family life and her career won the jury’s Special Grand Prix in Montreal and is currently screening in competition at Tallinn’s Black Night Film Festival. Poppe’s semi-autobiographical film was produced by Paradox in Norway, in co-production with Sweden’s Zentropa International and Ireland’s Newgrange Pictures and support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. A Thousand Times Good Night is still playing at number ten in Norwegian cinemas after six weeks, and total admissions so far are above 84,000 for Euforia Distribution.

Arrow Films will release the film in the UK and Ireland sometime in 2014. Upcoming Nordic films on the UK distributor’s line up include Clown-The Movie (December 6 release), Northwest and Pioneer.
