The prominent Nordic filmmakers Roy Andersson (photo), Susanne Bier, Klaus Härö, Erik Poppe and newcomer Karzan Kader are among Nordisk Film & TV Fond's January round of supported projects and initiatives, worth NOK6.9 million.
A production grant of NOK 1,500,000 was allocated to Susanne Bier's upcoming romantic comedy The Bald Hairdresser (Zentropa), as well as to Sweden's promising director Karzan Kader for his drama Bekas set in the 1990s in the Kurdish region of Northern Iraq (Sonet Film).
Another large production grant of NOK1,750,000 was handed out to the 10x60' Swedish TV series 30 Degrees in February produced by Fundament Film for SVT. The drama with comic relief set between Sweden and Thailand is co-directed by Beata Gårdeler and Daniel Lind Lagerlöf.
Five projects were granted development support. Roy Andersson's A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence is his third film about human existence (Roy Andersson Filmproduktion AB); Never Alone by Klaus Härö is the story of a man who saves Jewish refugees from concentration camps in Helsinki (MRP Matila Rohr Productions); Hokus Pokus Albert Åberg is a comedy about a dog, directed by Norway's Torill Kove (Maipo AS) and Taynikma Legends is the film adaptation of the comic book series by Danish director Jan Kjær's film (Zentropa RanBuk).
Three documentaries were granted production support. The Swedish film No One Dares to Remember is Ewa Cederstam's examination of rape (Mantaray Film & TV). Two Brothers tells of two young brothers' close relationship, filmed over a five year period by Aslaug Holm for Norway's Fenris Film. The Laxá Farmers by Icelandic director Grimur Hákonarson (Summerland) is the story of eco-friendly farmers.
