L.A. based Swedish actor was awarded Best Supporting Actor in a limited series or TV movie at Sunday’s Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. The eldest son of Stellan Skarsgård was crowned for his role as Perry Wright, the abusive husband of Celeste (Nicole Kidman) in HBO’s adaptation of the Liane Moriarty mystery novel Big Little Lies.
The show won a total of five wins in the Limited Series/TV movie category, for Outstanding limited series, Best Actress (Nicole Kidman), Best Supporting Actress (Laura Dern), Best Director (Jean-Marc Vallée) on top of three Creative Arts Emmys announced earlier.
HBO took home a total of 29 Emmys (out of 111 nominations), including two for its long running series Veep which won Best Comedy series and Best Leading Actress (Julia Louis-Dreyfus-her sixth for the same role) and Best Leading Actor in a Limited series/TV Movie to Rez Ahmed in The Night Of.
Hulu made history as the first streaming service to win the coveted Best Drama Series, with the dystopian The Handmaid’s Tale which grabbed a total of 8 Emmys including Best Leading Actress to Elisabeth Moss.
The other major streaming service Netlix turned 20 of its 91 nominations into awards, including Best TV Movie for Black Mirror: San Junipero, and Best Supporting Actor to John Lithgow in The Crown.
