Agent, Carmen Curlers 1 and Prisoner dominate Aarhus’ Series Awards

Nikolaj Lie Kaas’ series produced by Zentropa for TV2 Denmark brought home the most prizes for best comedy, rising talent (actress Selma Sol in Dali Pape) and the audience award.

Danish star actor Kaas was on hand at the 3rd Aarhus Series Awards last week to receive the award for Agent, his debut as creator/writer/director - see our story - Agent’s cast and creators on the Zentropa eight-part series and working with agents

The satire about the world of talent agents has its world premiere are the last Berlinale series competition. TrustNordisk handles sales.

Zentropa’s other star-studded series The Kingdom Exodus won best script, shared between the legendary director Lars von Trier and his co-writer of The Kingdom’s first two seasons, Niels Vørsel. The series was co-produced by Viaplay and DR.

DR Drama picked up three major awards for its premium series Carmen Curlers, voted best series of the year, and Prisoner (Huset) for which David Dencik won best actor while Michael Noer & Frederik Louis Hviid split the best director award. DR Sales represents both series.

Apple Tree Productions also enjoyed a festive Aarhus series ceremony last Thursday with the best Nordic series award to its successful Swedish crime drama Blackwater (Händelser vid vatten) directed by Mikael Marcimain for SVT, and best mini-series for its TV2 Denmark feel-good comedy drama Chorus Girls (Dansegarderoben) co-created and written by Ditte Hansen and Louise Mieritz.

ITV Studios handles sales on Blackwater.

The award for best crime series went to Miso Film Denmark’s Blinded-Those Who Kill (Den som dræber- fanget af mørket), second season in the reboot of the popular franchise Those Who Kill, produced for Viaplay.

Finally, TV2’s Christmas calendar series Tinka and the Mirror of the Soul (Tinka og sjælens spejl) produced by Cosmo Film scooped best returning series.

Aarhus’ Series Awards were celebrated for the third year, as part of the festival Aarhus series, side events to the major annual media & content confab THIS Game, THIS Conference and THIS Series.

The main jury for the Series awards included media analyst Keld Reinicke, TV2 Fiction’s senior executive producer Pernille Bech Christense, producer and Cosmo Film co-founder Rasmus Thorsen, film & series expert Ann Lind Andersen, and the National ilm School of Denmark’s head of script writing Kim Leona.

The jury for the new talent award consisted of actress Marie Reuther, Göteborg Film Festival’s head of TV Drama Vision Cia Edström and film editor, vice chair of the Danish Film Critics Association Jacob Ludvigsen.
