Rúnar Rúnarsson's Volcano is the hottest candidate at Iceland's upcoming Edda film and television awards, with 14 nominations including Best Film, Best Director and Best Script. The nominations were announced last Friday at Reykjavík‘s leading arthouse cinema, Bíó Paradís. Rúnarsson's feature debut produced by ZikZak Filmworks with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond is competing against Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson's Either Way and Olaf de Fleur's City of State for Best Film. Either Way has a total of 10 nominations, and City of State has nine. With four other chances to win an Edda for Polite People, Olaf de Fleur's Poppoli Pictures has a total of 13 nominations. Director Óskar Jónasson has six nominations for his crime TV series The Press 2 (Saga Film) and another six for the major animation film Legends of Valhalla-Thor (CAOZ). The five documentaries competing are Last Days of the Arctic by Magnús Vidar Sigurdsson, No Bone - No Skin: A Rock Band at Sea by Ingvar A. Thórisson, Iceland Food Center by Thorsteinn J. and Baldur from Bakki by Thorfinnur Gudnason. The Edda ceremony will take place on February 18, 2012 and will be broadcast live by Channel 2.
