Versatile actress Alicia Vikander will play the lead in the English language debuts of Swedish director Lisa Langseth (pictured) and Norway’s Roar Uthaug.
The drama Euphoria by Langseth will be Vikander’s third collaboration with the director (after Pure and Hotell) and her first project for her new company Vikarious Productions, set up with her agent Charles Collier. Vikarious will act as UK co-producer on the Swedish majority production spearheaded by B-Reel Films. Other co-producers include Germany’s Dancing Camel Films, SVT and SF Studios among others. SF will handle Nordic distribution.
Asked to comment on her English language debut and biggest project to date, Langseth told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “I don’t think about Euphoria as a "big" film; I will just try to do the best film I can, that’s my job. Alicia and I have worked so much together now; we speak very openly and clearly about the filmmaking process and this bigger budget film will simply gives us more possibilities.”
Langseth says her original script tells the story of ‘two sisters trying to reach out on a trip, and facing the hardest questions in life’. Casino Royale’s Eva Green will star opposite Vikander. Euphoria will start filming in August.
The Oscar winning actress (The Danish Girl) will then partner the Norwegian director of The Wave on his first Hollywood film: Tomb Raider, produced by MGM, Warner Bros and GK Films The 27- year old Swedish actress will play a young Lara Croft fighting to survive her first adventure. She will take on the role of the video game character first brought to the screens in 2001 by Angelina Jolie.
