A high-calibre cast including Søren Malling (Robert Award-Best Actor for A Hijacking), Peter Plaugborg (Best Actor in Montreal for The Miracle), Thomas Bo Larsen (The Hunt) have joined director Christina Rosendahl (pictured) in the cold-war political thriller The Idealist. The original story co-written by Rosendahl with co-writers Lars K Andersen (Flame & Citron) and Simon Pasternak (Spies & Glistrup), is based on true events. In 1968, a nuclear disaster near the US military base of Thule was covered up by US and Danish authorities, but 18 years later a young journalists starts investigating the case when he finds out that Danish workers who had been hired to clean up after the accident are dying of cancer. Filming started on August 13 and will be split between Copenhagen, Aarhus, Northern Sweden and the US. The idealist is produced by Jonas Frederiksen and Signe Leick Jensen for Toolbox Film with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. It is the first feature produced by Toolbox, established in 2011 by former Nimbus Film producers Morten Kaufmann and Signe Leick Jensen. Sales agent LevelK is starting to pitch the project at the current Toronto Film Festival.
