One of Sweden's most bankable filmmakers, the UK born Colin Nutley is back on Swedish screens on March 19 with Angel starring his favourite acting duo Helena Bergström and Rolf Lassgård.
Bergström plays an aging rock star, Angelica "Angel" Holst who wants to make a come back in the limelight. For that, she is ready to play a dangerous game to create media hype. The film was produced by Sweetwater AB for Svensk Filmindustri, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Over the last 15 years, most of Nutley's films have been top grossers in Sweden. His last film Heartbreak Hotel was 2006's most successful Swedish film (462,000 admissions), but his biggest hit ever was House of Angels (1992) with 1.2m admissions.
Based on the filmmaker's excellent track record, SF has put together a wide release for the film (85 prints) supported by a massive advertising campaign, including TV advertising on SF's broadcasting partner TV4, a national billboard campaign and advertising on daily newspapers. "We're selling Angel as a Colin Nutley movie" stressed Eva Svendenius, head of distribution for SF Film. The film's prime target is female 30+. Helena Bergström and Rolf Lassgård gave interviews on long lead magazines and across the Swedish press. Other Nordic territories keen to release Nutley's Angel include Norway where the filmmaker has the biggest notoriety outside of Sweden.
