Two Norwegian documentary films took centre stage at the world most prestigious documentary film festival IDFA in Amsterdam that ended on Sunday. Mona Friis Bertheussen (pictured) received the €5,000 Audience Award for Twin Sisters and Susann Østigaard and Beate Hofseth’s Light Fly, Fly High the Oxfam Global Justice Award.
Produced by Bertheussen’s own company Moment TV, Twin Sisters was number one (out of 300 candidates) on the IDFA Audience top charts and number five on the Docs for Sale list. The film tells the extraordinary story of Chinese twins adopted in totally opposite parts of the world and reunited by fate. Light Fly, Fly High which screened in the First Appearance competition slot follows a casteless Indian girl who tries to box her way out of poverty but her struggle for independence is tougher outside the ring. The film was co-produced by Norway’s Fri Film and Denmark’s Made on Copenhagen.
