Several star names have been added to Ole Bornedal's war epic 1864 that started filming yesterday in the Czech Republic. Lars Mikkelsen, (pictured) Bent Mejding are the new Danish actors playing alongside The Killing and Borgen stars Sidse Babett Knudsen, Pilou Asbæk, Søren Malling, Sofie Gråbøl, plus Nicola Bro and Søren Pilmark. The European cast also includes James Fox and Barbara Flynn from the UK and Rainer Bock, Barnaby Metschurat, Heikko Deutschmann from Germany. Danish newcomer Jens Frederik Sætter-Lassen and Norwegian rising star Jakob Oftebro have the title roles as the brothers Peter and Laust who fight against Prussian and Austrian forces during the Dybbøl massacre of 1864 and fall in love with the same woman.
Shooting of the €23 TV series and feature film will last until October 2013. 1864 is produced by Miso Film for DR, with support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. SF handles sales outside Scandinavia.
