Norway's box office hit Max Manus (over 1,1m admissions in 12 weeks) was celebrated by its peers, winning five Canon awards (Norwegian ‘Oscars') at Monday night's annual film awards ceremony, organized as part of the 5th Kosmorama Trondheim International Film Festival (March 5-10).
The WWII drama won the top award of Best Producers (John M. Jacobsen and Sveinung Golimo), Best Script (Thomas Nordseth-Tiller), Best Leading Actress (Agnes Kittelsen), Best Cinematographer (Geir Hartly Andreassen) and Best Sound editing (Baard Haugan Ingebregtsen and Tormod Ringhnes). The Man Who Loved Yngve won three Canons for Best Director (Stian Kristiansen), Editor (Vidar Flataukan), and Supporting Actor (Arthur Berning). Troubled Water by Erik Poppe won Best Actor in a Leading Role (Pål Sverre Valheim Hagen) and Through a Glass, Darkly, Best Soundtrack (Aslak Hartberg). All feature films were supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Rune Denstad Langlo was bestowed a Canon as Best Newcomer for his documentary 99% Honest.
