On Saturday Iceland’s annual ‘Edda’ film and television awards ceremony in Reykjavik was a triumphal night for Baldvin Z’s drama Life in a Fishbowl that picked up a record 12 Edda statuettes, including Best Film, Director and Screenplay (Baldvin Z (pictured) and Birgir Örn Steinarsson).

The film produced by Ingvar Thórdarson and Júlíus Kemp for the Icelandic Film Company won in every category where it was nominated, including Best Actor in a Leading Role (Thorsteinn Bachmann), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Hera Hilmar) and Best Cinematography (Jóhann Máni Jóhannsson). 

Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson’s Paris of the North (ZikZak Filmworks) which had 11 nominations had to do with two awards for Best Supporting Actor (Helgi Björnsson) and Best Supporting Actress (Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir).

The Cliff Season 2 – Depth of Darkness by Reynir Lyngdal (Pegasus Film) won Best TV Fiction, Impact by Ágústa Einarsdóttir Best Documentary of the Year and Chum by Jörundur Ragnarsson Best Short Film of the Year. 

Television personality, musician and environmental activist Ómar Ragnarsson received the Icelandic Film and Television Academy Honorary Award.
