Swedish filmmaker/producer Daniel Alfredson (photo) has been chosen to direct the second film based on Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Michael Nykvist and Noomi Rapace will again lend their features to inspector Mikael Blomkvist and IT hacker Lisbeth Salander. The ambitious project is produced by Yellow Bird and Nordisk Film who will handle theatrical and DVD distribution in the Nordic countries. The first feature film directed by Niels Arden Oplev will be released across Scandinavia on January 30, 2009.

Alfredson is currently enjoying the theatrical success in Sweden of his film Wolf released by SF. The film was number one at the local Top Ten in its opening week with 26,945 admissions from 33 prints. The Peter Stormare vehicle was produced by Migma Film with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. SF handles international sales.
