Pirjo Honkasalo’s Concrete Night (Betoniyo) and Aku Louhimies’ 8-Ball (8 Pallo) are dominating Finland’s Jussi film awards with 10 nominations each including Best Film and Best Director. The other three candidates vying for Best Film are Heart of a Lion by Dome Karukoski (4 nominations in total), the 2013 Nordic Council Film Prize nominee Open Up to Me by Simo Halinen (4 nominations) and Above Dark Waters by Peter Franzén (2 nominations).

Finland’s Oscar entry The Disciple has three nominations but not in major categories and the biggest hit of the year 21 Ways to Ruin a Marriage is only running for Best Actress (Armi Toivanen).

Nordisk Film & TV Fond supported six titles competing for a total of 20 Jussis. The 2013 Jussi awards ceremony organised by Filmiaura will take place on February 2nd, 2014. For further details on the Jussi nominations, check: www.jussit.fi
