The two Cannes entries The Salvation by Kristian Levring and Force Majeure (Turist) by Ruben Östlund (read interview on Friday), both supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond-have enjoyed overall positive reactions from the press.

The Salvation had its world premiere on Saturday at a midnight out of competition screening and received four stars from the Danish newspaper Politiken. Here are extracts from the Cannes trade dailies:

-Screendaily: “Mads Mikkelsen has crossover appeal and the curiosity value of seeing the talented Danish star of The Hunt and Hannibal fronting a classic American Western should carry Salvation safely across the international art house frontier”
-Variety: “This Danish twist on the most American of genres recycles stock elements from old Westerns, but does so in style”

Force Majeure
premiered on Monday at Un Certain Regard and had one of the longest audience applauses ever for the Cannes sidebar and four stars in the UK newspaper The Guardian.

-Screendaily: “A sardonic, serious, funny, precision-controlled psycho-comedy-drama inspired by the selfishness of our survival instincts, Swedish director Ruben Ostlund’s fourth feature is his best yet”
- Variety: “Visually stunning even in its most banal moments and emotionally perceptive almost to a fault”
