The 61st Cannes Film Festival is opening this Wednesday May 14 with Fernando Meirelles' Blindness based on Nobel Prize winning author Jose Saramago's novel.

The film, sold internationally by Focus Features, has been pre-bought by Sandrew Metroome for Scandinavia and by Sena for Iceland.  

The film is an unflinching exploration of human nature through the story of an epidemic of mysterious blindness. Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Alice Braga, Danny Glover, Gael Garcia Bernal, Yoshino Kimura are among the international stars that will walk up the steps of the Palais des Festivals on Wednesday, alongside the acclaimed director whose last film The Constant Gardener was a an international success.
