Friday 13 was a lucky day for the Icelandic Volcano by Rúnar Rúnarsson that immediately good a positive word of mouth going following the film's world premiere at the Directors' Fortnight. The three main trade magazines Variety, Hollywood Reporter and Screen International all praised the tender love story of a recent retiree for his wife, and Frédéric Boyen, head of the Cannes sidebar said at the press conference: "Simplicity is the trademark for the greatest films. Just like with Volcano, a film about unveiling or concealing one's feelings". The film's producers Thor Sigurjonsson, Skuli Malmquist, Egil Dennerline (Zik Zak Filmworks) and Danish executive producer Thomas Gammeltoft (Fine & Mellow) were all on hand with Rúnarsson and members of the crew (including main actors Theódór Júlíusson and Margrét Helga Jóhannsdóttir) to receive a standing ovation at Cannes' Palais Stéphanie. The film supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond will be released early in the fall 2011.
