The TV drama service has just acquired UK rights to the Danish series nominated for the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize 2020.
The deal was negotiated between Walter Presents co-founder and curator Walter Iuzzolino and DR Sales’ Executive Sales & Acquisition Manager Freja Johanne Nørgaard Sørensen.
Iuzzolino said: “Danish drama has consistently been setting standards for scripted excellence across the Nordic countries for the past ten years, and DR’s output has been playing a pivotal role in that creative revolution – from global crime hit The Killing to International Emmy winner Ride Upon the Storm. DR’s programming slate is always synonymous with top quality. When the Dust Settles continues that tradition of programming excellence: it is a powerful character-driven series that conjugates memorable, emotional stories with a gripping, sophisticated approach to storytelling and narrative structure.”
Nørgaard Sørensen added: When the Dust Settles is an ambitious project that speaks to something in all of us and has proven attractive to the international market. Walter Presents is doing an amazing job bringing foreign-language drama series to the British audiences and we are delighted that they’ve committed to When the Dust Settles.”
The 10 part multi-plot drama When the Dust settles (Når støvet har lagt sig) follows eight strangers whose lives intertwine in the aftermath of a terrorist attack in a Copenhagen restaurant.
The show was co-created by Dorte Høgh and Ida Maria Rydén, with Milad Alami (Follow The Money III) sharing the directing duties with Jeanette Nordahl (Wildland) and Iram Haq (What Will People Say).
The series produced by Stinna Lassen with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond, launched on DR February 2, 2020, and posted a 42% viewing share. It premiered subsequently on RÚV in Iceland, NRK in Norway, Yle in Finland and SVT in Sweden.
Since its inception in 2016, the VOD service Walter Presents - founded as a joint-venture between Channel 4 and Global Series Network - has been a keen buyer of Nordic TV drama. Recent acquisitions include Ride Upon the Storm, Before We Die, The Truth Will Out and Stockholm Requiem.
The curated service is now available in the UK/Ireland, US, Italy, and Australia.
