After Seaside Hotel and The Investigation, TV2 Denmark has delivered another winning series with the crime show White Sands, created by A.J. Kazinski.
The first of eight episodes went straight to number one when it launched May 3 on TV2 Denmark’s prime-time 20.00 slot, gathering 773,000 linear viewers. After a week, the consolidated audience climbed to 1,063,000.
According to TV2’s statement, White Sands has joined the exclusive club of programmes - getting smaller and smaller year by year, of programmes that have passed the million viewers at Kantar’s official viewer survey.
TV2 Denmark’s recent drama The Investigation created by Tobias Lindholm garnered similar numbers (1,009,000) when it premiered in the fall 2020, while the channel’s cult series Badehotellet (Seaside Hotel) is by far Denmark’s most popular series, with around 1.5 million viewers across all episodes since the premiere in December 2013, according to TV2.
White Sands’ second episode launched May 10 also opened straight at number 1 of Denmark’s top TV shows of the week, with 630,000 linear viewers, and a satisfying rate of 4.1 (out of 5), slightly higher than episode 1 (4.0).
In the series the police duo Thomas and Helene, are assigned to work together on a crime investigation in the picture-perfect but tight-knit seaside community of White Sands on the Jutlandic west coast. As they are forced to live as a couple to carry out their job, they gradually get closer to each other.
The series directed by Tilde Harkamp (Pros & Cons) was produced by Deluca Film for TV2 with co-financing from Yle in Finland, NRK in Norway and C More/Tv4 in Sweden and support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The premiere in Sweden is set for August 9.
White Sands is sold internationally by French-group Newen Content.
