Michael Noer’s psycho-thriller Birthday Girl starring Trine Dyrholm is among a slate of 17 Nordic titles offered at this week’s American Film Market in Los Angeles.
Birthday Girl produced by Nordisk Film Production Denmark has just been picked up by Plaion for German, Austria, Switzerland and Cherry Pickers for Benelux. The suspense film about a woman on a Caribbean cruiser who takes justice into her own hands, is due to open in a year time in Denmark.
TrustNordisk has also closed a deal with Viva Kids for North America on the animated films Just Super by top Norwegian animator Rasmus A. Sivertsen and Little Allan-The Human Antenna by Denmark’s Amalie Naesby Fick (The Incredible Story of the Giant Pear).
Just Super had already been sold to several territories include France (KMBO), Benelux (In the Air), Hungary (ADS Service), the Baltics (Estin Film), Poland (Vivarto), Middle East (Oceana Studios) The film is currently number 6 at the Norwegian film chart, with cumulated admissions of 87,261 after five weeks on screens.
The same international distributors forementioned and others such as Entermode (South Korea) and Investacommerce, (Albania and former Yugoslavia) have acquired Little Allan-The Human Antenna. Over 45,000 Danes have watched it in national cinemas.
High profile upcoming films on TrustNordisk’s AFM slate include Nikolaj Arcel’s period drama The Bastard starring Mads Mikkelsen, Ole Bornedal’s Nightwatch-Demons are Forever, Thea Hvistendahl’s Handling the Undead, Anders Walter’s Befrielsen and Martin Skovbjerg’s Copenhagen Doesn’t Exist, all backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
On the TV sides, anticipated series include the Norwegian thriller series The Fortress (Maipo Film/Viaplay), Thomas Vinterberg’s Families like Ours (Zentropa/TV2) and Nikolaj Lie Kaas’ debut as series writer/ director Agent (Zentropa/TV2).
Attending this week’s 43rd American Film Market are managing director Susan Wendt and her long-time colleague Nicolai Korsgaard, just promoted sales director from his earlier position as executive sales manager.
In his new role, Korsgaard - who has been with TrustNordisk since 2003 - will play an even stronger part in scouting new talents and projects. “After so many years of working and travelling together, the teamwork with Nicolai has become an indispensable part of TrustNordisk’s DNA. He has become a natural sparring partner, and I am looking very much forward to working together even closer,” said Wendt.
