The Finnish drama Dogs Don’t Wear Pants will have its official world premiere at the Theatre Croisette in Cannes on Tuesday May 21. Tom of Finland’s Pekka Strang plays Juha who develops an unexpected but powerful connection with a dominatrix named Mona (Krista Kosonen), following a tragic incident in his life that leaves him emotionally crippled.

Yellow Affair’s CEO Karoliina Dwyer said: “J-P Valkeapää’s previous film They Have Escaped demonstrated his unique talent for plunging his characters into unexpected and at-times very dark circumstances. Dogs Don’t Wear Pants explores and expands on this directorial approach, further cementing J-P as a fiercely original cinematic voice. With stand-out performances from two of Finland’s leading actors, we are confident that international distributors will recognise Dogs as a potential break-out festival title.”

The Yellow Affair will also introduce to Cannes buyers at a closed market screening, Mika Kaurismäki’s Master Cheng set to open September 27 in Finland. Chu Pak Hong, Anna-Maija Tuokko and Kari Väänären star in the story of professional chef Cheng, who travels with his son to a remote village in Finland to connect with an old Finnish friend he once met in Shanghai.

The sales company will also kick-off sales on Romantic Comedy, which screened in Rotterdam, SXSW and CPH:DOX. The documentary goes beneath the surface of favourite romantic films (from It Happened One Night, When Harry Met Sally to Runaway Bride) to understand how we view love, relationships and romance. The film will have its UK premiere in Sheffield.

Dwyer and her sales colleague Steven Bestwick will also start sales on the Swedish film My Life as a Comedian by Rojda Sekersöz (Beyond Dreams) starring Johan Rheborg and will continue negotiating the Berlin Crystal Bear winning film Stupid Young Heart by Selma Vilhunen.
