The Promised Land, Apolonia, Apolonia and Before it Ends shortlisted for Danish Oscar entry

The three Danish films have received backing from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

The Promised Land produced by Zentropa, reunites Mads Mikkelsen with director Nikolaj Arcel whose earlier period drama A Royal Affair was Oscar-nominated for best foreign language film in 2013.

The drama set in 1755 will world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival before heading off to San Sebastian and Toronto. TrustNordisk handles sales and Magnolia Pictures has acquired US rights.

Before It Ends is the debut feature of Anders Walter, Oscar winner in 2014 with the short film Helium. The WW2 drama starring Pilou Asbæk, Katrine Greis-Rosenthal and Morten Hee Andersen was produced by Miriam Nørgaard, Mette Høst Hansen, and Tomas Radoor for Nordisk Film. TrustNordisk handles sales.

The documentary Apolonia, Apolonia by Lea Glob about French figurative painter Apolonia Sokol is also shortlisted as Danish candidate for the 96th Academy Awards' International Feature Film Category.

The film produced by Danish Documentary has been a festival hit since its world premiere at IDFA in Amsterdam where it won best film. Cats & Docs handles sales. Danish Documentary is producing.

The final Danish Oscar entry for best international feature film will be revealed by the Danish Film Institute September 26.
