Gudnason will be vying for Best Performance by the Actor at the prestigious awards, to be handed out in New York on November 21st, 2022.

The Swedish mini- series A Royal Secret (En Kunglig Affär) was produced by StellaNova for SVT, in association with Yle, NRK, DR and RÚV, with REinvent handling global sales.

According to Helene Aurø, REinvent Sales and Marketing Director, so far territories that have acquired the show include Spain, the UK, Germany, the US, Canada and Benelux.

“We are thrilled to represent A Royal Secret. The excellent show is beginning to travel quite well and its International Emmy nomination will no doubt boost global buyers’ interest,” Aurø told nordicfilmandtvnews.com.

In the series inspired by true events, the versatile actor Sverrir Gudnason (Falling, Borg McEnroe) plays the controversial Swedish restaurateur Kurt Haijby who had a secret liaison with King Gustav V in the 1930s, when homosexuality was a criminal offence. See our separate story: CLICK HERE.

The series directed by Lisa James Larsson (Agatha Christie’s Hjerson, Victoria) from a screenplay by Bengt Braskered premiered on SVT last December.

Two Norwegian programmes are nominated in the following categories:

  • Best Short TV series - Nissene i bingen [Santas in the Hay] produced by Seefood TV for NorwayTV2Norge and Discovery+. Last year’s calendar family Christmas series by Norwegian comedian Espen Eckbo was followed by over a million viewers.
  • Kids: Factual & Entertainment - Ikke Gjor Dette Mot Klimaet! [Don’t Do This To The Climate], environment show ordered by NRK Super.

The winners will be announced at the on Monday, November 21, 2022.

Last year NRK’s Atlantic Crossing won Best mini-series at the International Emmys.
