The 6x30’ Swedish miniseries which wrapped its shoot last week in Karlskrona, Sweden, is being produced by Skyverse Nordic for co-production partners SVT and Disney+.
The premiere on the Swedish pubcaster is set for December 2024, with the US giant streamer due to launch it globally at a later date.
The thought-provoking, satirical and adrenaline-filled mini-series is written by author Jonas Jonasson, whose best-selling novel ‘The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared’ was produced by Nebout and Jansson-Schweizer. The latter is attached to Whiskey on the Rocks’ screen adaptation.
The story is based on the dramatic true events that unfolded in the Blekinge archipelago in 1981, when a Russian submarine U-137 ran aground and the world was on the brink of a new world war.
Next to Rolf Lassgård who plays the Swedish Prime Minister Thorbjörn Fälldin, are Anders Mossling (Estonia, The Kingdom), cast as the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ola Ullsten, Niklas Engdahl (The Bonus Family) as the Swedish Chief of Defence, Kęstutis Stasys Jakstas (Zero 2) as Leonid Brezhnev and Mark Noble (The Borgias) as Ronald Reagan. Rounding out the cast are Filip Berg (Backström, A Man Called Ove), Per Lasson (The Thin Blue Line), Katrin Sundberg (Maria Wern), Spencer MacIntyre and Elsa Saisio (Deadwind).
The show is produced by Jan Marnell and executive produced by Nebout, Jansson-Schweizer, Magnus Bimberg for Skyverse Nordic, Sonja Hermele and Anna Croneman for SVT, and Nanna Mailand-Mercado for Disney+.
Skyverse Nordic’s other premium TV show Cannes Confidential was launched recently on French broadcaster TF1 and on AMC Network’s Acorn TV in North America and the UK among others.
