Jon Øigarden (Mammon), Trond Fausa Aurvåg (Norsemen), Tobias Santelmann (The Last Kingdom) are some of the top talents working on the CGI film produced by Qvisten Animation. Other actors lending their voices to the characters from Terje Formoe’s universe include Charlotte Frogner (The Third Eye), Kyrre Haugen Sydness (Headhunters, Lilyhammer), Bartek Kaminski (Norsemen) and Laila Goody (State of Happiness, I Belong).

Top animator Rasmus A. Sivertsen who shares the directing credit with newcomer Marit Moum Aune, said: “After a series of puppet-animated films such as In the Forest of Huckybucky, we now want to create a computer-animated film, where the country’s best actors can contribute not only to their voices, but also creatively, to the process of recreating animated versions of the popular Sabertooth characters.”

Qvisten’s animation team will innovate by attaching a microphones with a headband to the actors to record the sound in the same way as in a feature film, instead of recording each actor separately with a static microphone. Sivertsen and Moum Aune said this technique will provide greater dynamics to the scenes. “The audience will hopefully experience the performance as both richer and more vibrant than in other animated films; the humour even more fun and the thrill even more engaging,” they said.

Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond (working title) tells the story of two young pirates searching for a lost brother, a vampire with heavy sunburns, a manipulative queen and a raging ape army. The star character will face plenty of challenges when he sets out to find a lost magic diamond.

The film is produced by Eirik Smidesang Slåen, Ove Heiborg, Heidi Sandberg for Qvisten Animation with support from the Norwegian Film Institute.

The domestic release is set for September 27, 2019. Sola Media handles world sales.
