New Nordic Film line-up also includes two works in progress, four finished films.
More than 15 territories have pre-bought rights to the Borg-McEnroe biopic starring Sverrir Gudnason as Björn Borg and Shia LaBeouf as John McEnroe. The film has just started shooting in Gothenburg.
Tuva Novotny has joined the cast as Borg’s fiancée Mariana Simionescu, alongside Robert Emms, who plays US tennis player Vitas Gerulaitis, and Ian Blackmann (The Bourne Legacy), cast as McEnroe’s father. As announced in Cannes, Stellan Skarsgård plays Borg’s coach Lennart Bergelin.
The film directed by Janus Metz based on a script by Ronnie Sandahl is produced by SF Studios Production with support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
SF Studios’ head of international sales Anita Simovic is also in Haugesund with the works in progress of the Danish father/son drama Mesteren (working title ‘The Master’) starring Søren Malling, Jakob Oftebro and Ane Dahl Torp. The film directed by Charlotte Sieling for Nimbus Film is set in the Danish art scene.
The other work in progress is the Norwegian stop motion animation film In the Forest of Hucky Bucky by Rasmus A. Sivertsen produced by Qvisten Animation.
Finished films yet to be released domestically include the Norwegian action comedy Børning 2 on Ice, pre-sold to Bulgaria, China, CIS, Iran, and Japan, and documentary Supervention 2-Skiing on the Edge pre-sold to China.
Other titles on SF Studios International slate is the Swedish Christmas comedy A Holy Mess by Helena Bergström that sold more than 700,000 tickets in Sweden, and the youth film Siv Sleeps Astray that had its world premiere at Berlin’s Generation KPlus 2016.
