After having won the hearts of Icelanders on television and silver screens, Saga Film's TV series The Prison Shift (produced for Channel 2) and its feature film spin off Mr Bjarnfredarson got the heaviest votes from the Icelandic Film and Television Academy such as Best TV Fiction, Best Feature Film, Best Director (Ragnar Bragason), and Best Actor (Jón Gnarr).
Kristbjörg Kjeld received her first Edda as Best Leading Actress for her role as an aging mother suffering from Alzheimer disease in Mamma Gógó. Composer Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson who had won a European Film Award in 1991 for Fridrik Thor Fridriksson's Children of Nature, received an Edda for Best Music for Mamma Gógó, and Árni Páll Jóhannsson was named Best Set Design for Fridriksson semi biopic.
Þorfinnur Guðnason and Andri Snær Magnason's documentary film Dreamland about the building of the biggest dam in Europe and its negative effects on the local economy won an Edda in its category. An air of protest against recent film funding cutbacks from the Icelandic government and public broadcaster RUV swept the Edda ceremony where Academy members chose to give away a symbolic ‘Honorary Prize' to "the Icelandic nation for its strong support of Icelandic film through the years."
