French sales agent Les Films du Losange started to pitch the ambitious Norwegian animated film to global buyers in Cannes.
One of Norway’s most expensive animated films ever, budgeted at around NOK 77 million (€7.3 million), Kajsa Næss' Titina is produced by the Oscar-winning Norwegian animation studio Mikrofilm (The Danish Poet) in collaboration with the Oscar-nominated Belgian company Vivi Film (The Secret of Kells, The Triplets of Belleville).
The project backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond is in full swing, with a delivery set for the summer of 2022.
Titina is based on the true story of the discovery of the North Pole by airship in 1926, told from the perspective of the little fox terrier ‘Titina’ who accompanied Italian airship engineer Umberto Nobile and Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen. The story is written by Per Schreiner (The Bothersome Man, Struggle for Life).
Commenting on the teaser trailer, Kajsa Næss said: "I'm very proud of this teaser, which shows that even though the story is about the discovery of the North Pole, it is not a classic expedition film. Titina is a humorous and emotional film about small feelings in big landscapes. About two proud men who discovered a completely empty place. With the little terrier Titina as the main character, we have the opportunity to tell this story in a fresh way with irreverent humor, small magical moments and room for surrealism."
Næss, one of Norway’s leading animation directors goes on: "The teaser shows the scene where Titina first catches a glimpse of the whale that follows the airship, a whale that will come to her aid when she desperately needs it."
The film will be distributed by Norsk Filmdistribusjon in Norway, Folkets Bio in Sweden, Filmkompaniet in Finland, and Sena in Iceland.
