Hanne Palmquist, CEO of Nordisk Film & TV Fond congratulates last Sunday's major international awards to Thomas Vinterberg's Jagten (The Hunt) in Cannes and TV series Borgen in London.

"Sunday 27 May was a fantastic day for Danish film and TV with a Best Actor award and another two prizes in Cannes for Thomas Vinterberg's Jagten (The Hunt) and a BAFTA for Best International Drama - series in London to DR's Borgen.

I hereby wish to congratulate Mads Mikkelsen for the Best Actor award in Cannes. We all remember Mads as a very young and cool Fischer in the DR TV-series Taxa and ever since, his strong performances have been seen in a number of national and international features. Mads Mikkelsen is a world class actor, that has been a fact for some time. Mads has now received the very well deserved and ultimate proof of that. Also congratulations to Thomas Vinterberg for a wonderful and strong film that will become a classic like Festen, to DOP Charlotte Bruus Christensen, to producer Sisse Graum and to Peter Ålbæk and Zentropa.

Many congratulations as well to DR and the Borgen team; writer Adam Price, producer Camilla Hammerich, conceptual director Søren Kragh-Jacobsen and of course Sidse Babett Knudsen for her confident and splendid performance as the Danish prime minister Birgitte Nyborg. DR is winning this prestigious prize two years in a row - my deepest respect and keep up the good work.

A final note to the Danish triumph is that both Jagten and Borgen have received great financial support from its Nordic neighbours. The Swedish Film Institute, Film i Väst, SVT, NRK and Nordisk Film & TV Fond have been part of making these successes possible. By working together we raise the level of quality to the world class league."

Jagten has been sold to over 30 territories by TrustNordisk including the US (Magnolia Pictures), Spain (Golem), Germany and Austria (Wildbunch).

Borgen is equally popular abroad. After the Nordic region, the UK, France, Germany and Australia, viewers in Belgium, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovia, Montenegro, and Macedonia will be able to watch the series. Furthermore, DR Sales has licenced the rights to the Danish language TV series in all Latin America and a Spanish version will also be available. The final third season of Borgen will be broadcast on DR in 2013.
