Girl Picture’s Aamu Milonoff is among the acting talents selected for The Finnish Film Affair training initiative supported by the Finnish Film Foundation and Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Launched six years ago to offer career opportunities for Nordic talent and professionals, the Finnish Film Affair’s Nordic Flair will focus this year on acting.
The training workshop will unspool between September 20-22 during the industry event, held parallel to the 36th Helsinki International Film Festival-Love & Anarchy.
Thanks to the Finnish Film Affair’s cooperation with the Finnish Actors Union’s training division Ilmaisuverstas and casting director Jantsu Puumalainen (Casting by Me), 30 active actors mostly from Finland but also from Sweden and Denmark, are taking part either as participants or observers.
Under the guidance of top talent agents and international casting directors - some of them associated with James Bond’s Skyfall and the Norwegian hit series Exit - the participants will be offered guidance on self-tapes, CVs on top of networking opportunities.
Among the selected actors are Aamu Milonoff (Girl Picture), Dakota Trancher Williams (The Bonus Family, Honour) and Elias Salonen (best actor at the 2022 Finnish Golden Venlas for the series Adults)
"We last organised the Nordic Flair training with an acting theme four years ago, and there have been requests to renew it every year. This, and the number of applications clearly show how much demand there is for similar opportunities among Nordic actors," said Maria Pirkkalainen-Barber, Head of Finnish Film Affair and Nordic Flair.
Next to the training programme, on Friday September 22, the Nordic Flair participants and Finnish Film Affair industry delegates will be able to hear talent agents Raakel Huikuri (Lisa Richards Nordic), Laura Munsterhjelm (Actors in Scandinavia), Pete Stone (CAA) and Lollo Urbansdotter (Magnolia Agency) talk about their career and current challenges in the industry at the panel ‘In Discussion with Talent Agents’.
Beyond Helsinki’s Finnish Film Affair, selected Nordic Flair actors, agents and casting directors are also invited to take part in the ‘Near Future Retreat’ think tank organised by Helene Granqvist and Valeria Richter from New Nordic Narratives.
Over 460 industry delegates from 26 countries have signed up for Finnish Film Affair.
