Icelandic B.O. revenues among the highest in the last decade. 

Box office revenues for the first six months of 2016 amounted to ISK 754,367,828, an increase of 2,43% compared to 2015 and the best result in at least 6 years according to FRISK (Association of rights holders in the TV and Film industry). 

The top grossing film Deadpool grossed ISK 52,198,963, more than Avengers, Age of Ultron, the 2015 B.O. champion during the same period (ISK 48,517,104) but less than the 2014 top grosser and local phenomenon Life in a Fishbowl (ISK 57,785,310).

Total admissions during the first six months 2016 remained at 641,995, a 6,02% drop compared to 2015. As usual the Top 10 was dominated by US studios movies. Market share for Icelandic films for the first six months came in at 2.63%.The most popular local film was Óskar Jónasson’s comedy drama In Front of Others produced by Truenorth. The film released by Sena sold 10,891 admissions. Number two was Reykjavik directed by Asgrímur Sverrisson (2,569 admissions). Ráms - last year’s biggest local film - added 921 admissions to its 2015 admission of 21,546.

-Two documentaries released by Bió Paradís came third and fifth at the Top 5 Icelandic films: Spies, Lies and Family Ties by Helgi Felixson, and Úti að Aka - Á Reykspúandi Kadilakk yfir Ameríku.
-The top non-national Nordic film was A Man Called Ove

The rest of the year looks strong for Icelandic films with Baltasar Kormákur’s first local film in four years, The Oath (launched today on Icelandic screens), followed by the Venice entry Heartstone by Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson.
