Agneta Fagerström-Olsson who directed two previous Wallander films (The Sniper and The Angel of Death) is attached to the project packaged as the previous Wallander series, as a production made in cooperation with broadcasters TV4 Sweden, ARD Degeto Germany, and Scandinavian distributor SF.
The Troubled Man is the last book of the Wallander series written by Henning Mankell. "It will be a very different Wallander film, mostly because it will deal with one of the biggest political scandals in Sweden during the post-war period: the submarines in the 1980s. I'm also very happy that Krister [Henriksson] has once again accepted to take on the challenge and that we have a fantastic cast and great director on board", said the novelist in a statement.
In The Troubled Man, the middle-aged detective from Ystad becomes a grandfather and tries to come closer to his daughter Linda and her family. When Linda's father in law - a retired captain - suddenly disappears, Wallander is asked to investigate the case that then takes him back to the Cold War.
Other cast members include Charlotta Jonsson, Leonard Terfelt, Peter Andersson and Sten Ljunggren. The film will be released in cinemas early 2013. The following five films will go straight to DVD and television.
