The US’s Janus Films, South Korea’s MM International, Turkey’s Birfilm and Ukraine’s Arthouse Traffic are the latest sales on Hlynur Pálmason’ s festival hit Godland.
So far over 40 territories have acquired Godland ((Vanskabte Land/Volaða Land), since its successful launch at Cannes’s Un Certain Regard.
Other key territories closed include Curzon for the UK, A Contracorriente for Spain, Imagine for Benelux, Movies Inspired for Italy, Vertigo Media for Czech Republic, Slovakia among others. Co-production countries where the film is due to open include Iceland (Sena), Scandinavia (Scanbox) and France (Jour de Fête).
Pálmason’s breathtakingly-shot drama about a Danish priest’s harsh encounter with Iceland’s rugged nature and foreign culture in late 19th
century, is currently screening at Toronto’s Contemporary World Cinema. It will next screen at the London Film Festival among other festival showcases.
The film produced by Denmark’s Snowglobe with Iceland’s Join Motion Pictures is also candidate for this year’s Nordic Council Film Prize.
New Europe Film Sales’ which boasts strong relations with Icelandic talents, is also representing Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson’s Beautiful Beings.
The Warsaw-based boutique sales company headed by Jan Naszewski has just promoted two staff members.
Magdalena Drgas who has worked at the company since 2021 as acquisition executive, is now Head of Marketing, while Agnieszka Puciło is the new Sales, Markets & Premieres Coordinator.
Puciło had been responsible for international co-productions at Poland’s Madants, where she worked on award-winning films such as Valdimar Jóhansson’s Lamb, and Claire Denis’ High Life.
