The series The Nobel Brothers currently in development, is produced by Sweden’s Black Spark Productions with Denmark’s Arena Film.
The multi-season project The Nobel Brothers which received development support from C More/TV4, is co-created by executive producer Ulrich Bolt Jørgensen (Arena Film), head-writer Johanna Ginstmark (Hassel) and episodic writer Jonas Tarestad. Black Spark’s seasoned producer Piodor Gustafsson (Moscow Noir, The Wife, Border) is executive producer, and Emmy-award winner Sven Clausen (The Protectors, Unit One) is creative producer.
Set in Russia between the late 1830s and the early 20th century, the epic family saga chronicles the true and untold story of the Swedish Nobel family.
Jørgensen told nordicfilmandtvnews.com he first had the idea for the series almost a decade ago, after reading Robert Toft’s book The Russian Rockefellers. “I found the story of Alfred Nobel and his brothers absolutely riveting, and I was also fascinated by the sheer number of Swedes who settled in Russia at the time.”
Ginstmark also said: “Most people know that Alfred Nobel invented dynamite and bequeathed his fortune to laureates who conferred the greatest benefit to mankind, but Alfred wasn’t just a rising genius from nowhere, and his success was in fact a family affair."
She continues: "The Swedish Nobel brothers, Ludvig, Robert and Alfred were ingenious inventors, building the oil industry in Caucasus and becoming ‘The Russian Rockefellers’ in the decades leading up to the Russian revolutions. The Nobel Brothers is an amazing story about family rivalry set to the backdrop of the Russian empire’s downfall on the brink of the 20th century."
Elin Kvist, Development Executive at C More/TV4 said: "At C More and TV4, we are constantly looking for locally relevant and high-quality stories to engage a broad Swedish audience. In this epic family saga about the Nobel family, we are hoping to find just that and are really looking forward to developing this with Black Spark Productions."
