The hard-hitting Danish drama from creators/writers Ida Maria Rydén and Dorte Høgh (Dicte), was pitched yesterday at Göteborg’s TV drama Vision as a work in progress. It features the interweaving lives of eight characters, before and after a tragic terror attack in Copenhagen.
In the main roles are Karen-Lise Mynster (Aftermath), Jacob Lohmann (Follow the Money, The Rain), Henning Jensen (Below the Surface, The Killing), Peter Christoffersen (The Bridge), Arian Kashef (Rita), Malin Crepin (In Your Veins) Viola Martinsen (Splitting up Together) and Katinka Petersen.
Milad Alami who directed the acclaimed first feature The Charming and episodes of Follow the Money, Season 3, said he was attracted to the story with “believable characters”, who feel like “real people you pass on the street, with diverse social background, sexual orientation, race and age.” He adds: “The story is not focused on the terrorists, but the everyday people who are affected by the attacks. “
Alami also enjoyed the creative freedom he got from DR Drama’s team who allowed him to “work with a more poetic and immediate approach” than usually seen in other shows with similar themes. For this innovative multi-plot drama, inspired by Robert Altman’s film Short Cuts, Lassen said it was important for her and DR Drama to hire new directors with feature film background, able to take control of the material.
Next to concept director Alami is episodic director Jeanette Nordahl, set to make a splash this year with her debut feature Wildland starring Sidse Babett Knudsen. Norway’s acclaimed director Iram Haq (What Will People Say) is in talks to direct some episodes.
The series was produced by DR Drama in association with SVT, NRK, Yle and RÚV. The premiere on DR is set for early 2020.
