Haugesund: The Berlin-based company has just picked up world sales and remake rights to the comedy, screening this week at the Norwegian Film Festival’s Nordic Focus.
Created and produced by Thorkell Hardarson and Örn Marinó Arnarson - aka the Markell Brothers - the Icelandic feelgood movie released domestically by Myndform, has attracted more than 34,000 Icelanders - nearly 10% of the population - since last March, despite a 6-week cinema shut down due to the pandemic.
The comedy tells of six friends on their annual fishing trip, who realize that leaving wives, work and worries at home is actually hard work. What was supposed to be a cosy fishing trip turns out to be a downward spiral to hell.
Speaking to nordicfilmandtvnews.com, sales agent and Media Move CEO Justyna Koronkiewicz said: “I specialise in genre films and I love the Markell Brothers’ approach to comedy – perhaps the hardest of all genres – and the outcome of their original attitude. I really am the audience they made their film for – having had enough of home kindergarten and social distancing. I just want a good laugh and to see a group of friends make some mess. And I know I’m not alone in this!”
The Last Fishing Trip is Media Move’s second Icelandic pick up after Birgitta Björnsdóttir’s Agnes Joy, top selling Icelandic film of 2019.
