The three top Nordic filmmakers Ulf Malmros (photo), Ole Bornedal, Margreth Olin, and a new episode of the animated feature Little Ghost Laban have received a total of SEK 12.8m in production support last May from the Swedish Film Institute (SFI). All are supported by the Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
The biggest grant of SEK8m was awarded to Swedish filmmaker Ulf Malmros (God Save the King) for his new film The Wedding Photographer (Bröllopsfotografen) starring Björn Starrin, Tuva Novotny and Kjell Bergqvist. Based on Malmros’ original script, the comedy features Robin, a photographer living in a hole in Varmland, who gets a job on a posh wedding in Djursholm. He falls for the bride’s sister and tries to fit in the upper class milieu. The film which started shooting on May 26 is produced by Jan Blomgren for Bob Film Sweden.

Following up on his back to back thrillers The Substitute and Just Another Love Story, Denmark’s popular filmmaker Ole Bornedal will go further into the portrayal of ‘the evil in each one of us’, with his new film Free us from Evil (Fri os fra det onde). The film which received SEK1.5m from the SFI is produced by Thura Film (Denmark) in co-production with Sweden’s Greta Film, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. SF will handle Scandinavian distribution.

Angel (awarded SEK1.3m) is the first feature film by the established Norwegian documentary filmmaker Margreth Olin. The film tells how bad experiences in childhood are repeated through generations and how they affect people as adults. Lena Endre has one of the leading roles with Finnish actor Antti Reini. The film currently shooting is a Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish co-production between Speranza Film, Migma Film and Periferia Productions.

Lilla spöket Laban 13-18
(awarded SEK 2m), is the new adventures of Little Ghost Laban co-directed by Lasse Persson, Karin Nilsson and Alicja Jaworski. Lars Blomgren is producing the children’s animated film for Filmlance International.
