Major Norwegian TV awards to 22 July, Scandinavian Star

The two NRK series backed by the Fund picked up respectively Best TV Drama and Best Documentary programme at the 2020 Norwegian Gullruten TV awards.

On Friday evening in Oslo, the Norwegian TV industry celebrated both the annual Gullruten (Golden Screen) TV awards and Gullruten TV Craft Awards (Fagprisen).

Norwegian pubcaster NRK dominated both awards, with 18 out of 18 TV craft awards, and 9 out of 18 Gullruten TV awards, with the remaining 5 Gullrutens going to Discovery Networks Norway and 4 to TV2 Norway.

NRK’s six-part TV drama 22 July which won earlier this year the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize for Best Nordic Screenplay, was voted Best Norwegian TV drama of the year, beating the tough competitors Beforeigners (HBO Nordic), Exit (NRK) and Witch Hunt (TV2).

In the crafts category, the series about the July 22, 2011 terrorist attack in Norway, won an additional four awards for Best Director (Pål Sletaune), Best Screenplay (Sara Johnsen), Best Costume (Kristine Barlow/Marit Sætren) and Best Sound Design (Tormod Rignes/Johan Pram).

The true crime series Scandinavian Star by Mikala Krogh won Best Documentary programme and in the craft category, Best Editing for a Documentary to Martin Stoltz.

The series about the unsolved tragedy on board the ‘Scandinavian Star’ ferry in 1990 was produced by Danish Documentary and Nordisk Film Production Norway for DR and NRK.

The anthology series Nudes produced by Barbosa Film for NRK won Best Children and Youth Programme and in the craft category, Best Original Music (Therese Aune).

The third season of Vikingane (Norsemen) won Best Comedy programme, three years after the initial season won in the same category. The Viking comedy was produced by Viafilm for NRK/Netflix.

NRK’s hit series Exit picked up two awards in the craft category for Best Editing-TV Drama (Simen Gengenbach) and Best Cinematography-TV Drama (Pål Bagge Haagenrud). The dark drama about the financial world was produced by Fremantle.

TV2’s successful show Witch Hunt (Heksejakt) won two Gullruten awards for Best Acting to Ingrid Bolsø Berdal who plays a whistle-blower working for a leading law firm, and Best Supporting Actor to Sara Khorami. The series was produced by Miso Film Norway.
