The awards ceremony on Tuesday closed the festival’s 28th edition which screened 110 films over six days.
Nordisk Panorama’s €11,000 Best Nordic Documentary award to Last Men in Aleppo was the latest accolade for the Feras Fayyad film about the Syrian conflict, which has collected more than 15 prizes since its triumphal world premiere at Sundance earlier this year.
The jury said: “The Award goes to this example of outstanding filmmaking portraying one of the greatest tragedies of our time. Risking their lives, with great respect for their characters and an impressive sensitivity to the complexity of war, the filmmakers take us into a world made up of choices that very few of us would be capable of making.”
The Honorary Mention went to the Norwegian film by Zaradasht Ahmed Nowhere to Hide.
