Truenorth producer Kristinn Thordarson is replacing Hilmar Sigurdsson of GunHill as Chairman of the Association of Icelandic Film Producers (SIK).
The appointment was announced yesterday, following the Association’s General Meeting on May 26.
Among the key issues that Thordarson will submit to the Icelandic Ministry of Education, Science and Culture is the completion of a new agreement to set the framework for Icelandic film over the next five years. “Our main issue is to correct and raise the funding for the Icelandic Film Centre. Since the financial collapse, the budget was reduced twice by almost 40%. Filmmakers and the Film Centre have come up with new proposals which would set the groundwork for a new five-year deal with the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry has the proposals and we are waiting for their response,” Thordarson told nordicfilmandtvnews.com.
Another burning issue is the increase of the tax incentive in the form of a rebate to local production expenditure, from 20% to 25%. The Parliament is mostly likely to adopt this measure very soon.
