The project was announced yesterday by US distributor NEON which has acquired rights for North America.
The English-language feature set to start filming in 2022, is described succinctly as a “golden-age musical about the last human family”.
Oppenheimer behind the Academy-award nominated documentaries The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence will be directing Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton), George Mackay (1917, Captain Fantastic), and Stephen Graham (Venom: Let There Be Carnage, The Irishman).
The film produced by Oppenheimer and his regular partner Signe Byrge Sørensen for Final Cut for Real, is co-produced by Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Pictures and Germany’s Match Factory, also handling global sales. The major feature received support from the Danish Film Institute and Film-und Medienstiftung NRW in Germany.
Neon is the US distributor of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner and Nordic Council Film Prize nominated animation documentary Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen.
