The Danish actor was handed out the statuette for Outstanding Actor in a TV drama series on Tuesday at the 58th Monte-Carlo TV Festival.

Lassen was competing against Billy Campbell (Cardinal, Canada), Charles Berling (Glacé, France) and Ioan Gruffudd (Liar, UK).

The Danish thriller Below the Surface (Gidseltagningen) produced by SAM Productions for Kanal 5, was also vying for Best Drama Series and Best Actress (Patrika Steen). Studiocanal in charge of world distribution, just announced that the series sold to more than 70 territories, has been confirmed for a second season, to be shot on location in Denmark in the fall 2018.

Below the Surface is created by Kasper Barfoed, based on an idea by Adam Price and Søren Sveistrup. Barfoed is co-writer with Astrid Øye, Per Daumiller, Lars K. Andersen and Michael W. Horsten.

This is the second year in a row that a Scandinavian actor goes home with a Golden Nymph-Best Actor in a TV drama after Aksel Hennie’s win in 2017 for Nobel.

At last Tuesday’s awards ceremony in Monte-Carlo, the Swedish documentary Abuse and the UN by Karin Mattison won Best Documentary.
