The fast-rising Norwegian production company has just named Tommy Gulliksen Head of Documentary.
Renowned documentary filmmaker Gulliksen (Terror Island, War of Art) will leave Norsk Fjernsyn that he co-founded in 2013 to join Oslo Pictures on December 1st.
He will become a partner at Oslo Pictures, next to producers Thomas Robsahm, Dyveke Bjørkly Graver, writer/director Joachim Trier, writer/director Eskil Vogt, director Jonas Matzow Guldbrandsen and cinematographer Marius Matzow Gudbrandsen.
Gulliksen said: “This [move] feels right at this stage of my career. I am attracted by the extreme talent, ambition and creative power of this team. It is otherwise easy to end up in comfort zones and repeat oneself. At Oslo Pictures, I hope to find new ways to make films and TV series, and I look forward to learning from colleagues who are better than me in many areas. “
He goes on: “At the same time, I want to establish a new documentary environment that takes care of the unique voices and brings important stories out into the world. We have great international ambitions, but it is important for us to really capture Norwegian reality for a Norwegian audience. We will probably not flood the TV channels with ideas, but would very much like to pitch the projects we are passionate about and which we believe can be unique experiences for a large audience.”
Speaking to nordicfilmandtvnews.com, Robsahm added: “Tommy and I have been talking for years about working together, and finally we will. He is one of the most talented documentary directors I know, and my heart beats for docs, so this is great.”
Gulliksen is current wrapping the true crime series Falling Down (Mannen som falt) about the mysterious death of Norwegian civil engineer Jan Wiborg in 1994, who was working on the controversial construction of a new Oslo airport. The docu-series in six episodes was produced by Norsk Fjernsyn for Discovery Networks Norway/TVNorge.
Next projet set to hit cinemas is Maria Sødahl's drama Hope starring Stellan Skarsgård and Andrea Bræin Hovig. The film produced by Motlys in cooperation with Oslo Pictures, opens November 22.
In 2020, Oslo Pictures will start production on Joachim Trier’s much anticipated film The Worst Person in the World starring Anders Danielsen Lie and Renate Reinsve.
Other projects include the next feature by Kristoffer Borgli (Drib), and two documentaries that just received support from the Norwegian Film Institute’s ‘New Ways’ talent initiative: Tiny Dancer by Mona Berntsen, focusing on Norwegian dancer Mona Berntsen, and Explosions in the Heart by debut director Yenni Lee, which explores polyamory and addiction to love.
